‘Pokémon GO’ Announces A Global Catch Event With A Seemingly Impossible Goal

Pokemon GO Players have been waiting for Niantic to announce their Thanksgiving event for 2017, and while it will take place over the holiday, it is not directly tied to that holiday. Instead, Pokémon GO is having a “Travel and Global Catch Event,” which they’ve just revealed today. Apparently they have taken a number of YouTubers and gaming personalities, flown them to Japan, and will be producing some videos tied to this event which tasks players with a seemingly impossible goal: catch 3 billion Pokémon in a week. Reaching different milestones will unlock different prizes for the event. The breakdown is above, but you can read it below if that’s easier: 500M catches – 2x XP and 6 hour lures 1.5B catches – 2x XP and 6 hour lures and 2x Stardust 3B catches – 2x XP and 6 hour lures and 2x Stardust, 48 global window for Farfetch’d spawns, 48 local east Asia window for Kangaskhan spawns Alright, so, a few things. I know I’m always negative about Pokémon GO these days, but frankly, this sucks. 2x XP and Stardust with bonus lure length should be a standard part of a holiday event to begin with. We had double XP and Stardust for literally doing nothing at all last Thanksgiving , yet this time it’s tied to 1.5 billion catches? Okay. And the “grand prize” of this, a 48 hour release of Farfetch’d and a localized release of Kangaskhan in Asia is just maddening. The game has been out for a year and a half.
